Producer
"True masters of Sauvignon ... The Mellot family has made it to the top of the Sauvignon wine world through their aspiration. The white wines of Alphonse Mellot, produced in the Sancerre region of France, are some of the finest and purest examples of Sauvignon genius. The best wines of the world." Michelle Bettan and Thierry Dessow, 2008 The surname Mello appears in local chronicles already in the 16th century, namely in 1513. Even then, the life of the family depended on vines and was devoted to the production of top-quality wines. At the beginning of the 19th century, Alphonse Mello opened a tavern in Sancerre. By offering local visitors to the tavern, the tavern was the first step towards a successful wine trade. In 1881, he received a license to supply his wine throughout France and around the world. The license served as the beginning of the worldwide development of the family business, which was passed down from father to son from generation to generation, and today the family business is run by the eldest son of the family, named after the founder, Alphonse. Today, the age-old traditions of the production of Mellot wine are continued by father and son, 18th and 19th descendant of the great Alphonse Mello. The grapes are grown in the vineyards of the upper slopes of Sancere, and the most famous of them is "DOMAINE LA MOUSSIERE". Due to its unique quality, this wine has received a unique official category among the Sancerre wines produced. DOMAINE DE LA MOUSSIERE is one large vineyard that covers over 30 hectares. The red and rosé wines of the Sancerre region are made from Pinot Noir grapes, namely from the older vines called "Vieux Clos Chambrastes". According to legend, the vineyard is located on the site of an ancient Roman settlement. "

Sancerre produces ones of the most famous French wines. Vines are cultivated on slopes at altitudes of 100m above sea level. The soil - very chalky and contains a large amount of calcium therefore notes of minerals and flint are dominant in wines and it is characterized by a high, juicy acidity. These wines are pleasant to drink while they are young and all the beautiful notes stand out in the aroma like black currant leaves, gooseberries and green grass.
Loire is one of the biggest regions in Northern France. This beautiful valley that stretches more than 300 km in length has been the inspiration of poetry and art throughout the ages. The dominant grapes are different in each part of Loire, and this is the only region in France that produces equally good white, red, rose, dessert and sparkling wines.
