About
The La Soufrandise Pouilly-Fuissé "Vignes Blanches" 2022 Blanc is a dry white wine, crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. This wine originates from the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation in the southern part of Burgundy, France, a region renowned for its exceptional Chardonnay vineyards. The "Vignes Blanches" refers to a specific vineyard site known for its limestone-rich soils, which impart a distinctive minerality and complexity to the wine, reflecting La Soufrandise's commitment to expressing the unique terroir of their vineyards.
Producer
The Domaine la Soufrandise winery is located in the center of the Pouilly Fuissé appellation in the south of Burgundy. The vineyard area is only 6 hectares, but the strength is hidden in the age of the vines (half over 45) and the variety of sites (over 20); so many climats create so many blending or breeding opportunities. The soil is favorable for Chardonnay grapes and therefore the winery specializes in the production of high class white wines. The winery invests in the care of the vines and grapes in order to convey the authenticity of the terroir.
Tasting notes

Tasting notes for the “Vignes Blanches” 2022 Blanc reveal a sophisticated bouquet of green apple, lemon zest, and flint, underlined by a delicate floral note. On the palate, the wine offers a vibrant acidity and a rich texture that balances beautifully with its mineral undertones, leading to a long, refreshing finish. This combination of crisp acidity and depth showcases the premium quality of Chardonnay from Pouilly-Fuissé, making it a standout white wine.

Pairing

For food pairing, this Pouilly-Fuissé Blanc is superb with seafood dishes, such as grilled sea bass or lobster, where its acidity complements the freshness of the seafood. It also pairs excellently with creamy chicken dishes or pasta in a light cream sauce, enhancing the flavors of the food with its bright profile and complex character.

Mâconnais can be proud of its white Chardonnay wines - they are excellent representatives of "white" Burgundy with a good price/quality ratio. These are definitely the best wines to start with when getting to know Burgundy for they are pure and charming in their simplicity.
Burgundy (Bourgogne) can be confusing because of the multiplicity of its appellations - all the small vineyards are divided between multiple producers so it can often be difficult to understand this diversity. However, it is the exact reason why the wines of Burgundy are considered to be the finest in the world. A common topic of discussion, when talking about Burgundy, is the concept of "terroir" - a unique combination of soil and climate conditions that affects the taste of wine in the appellations, making it unique to each village. Winemakers mainly use the capricious Pinot Noir and the classical Chardonnay to create true masterpieces, while Gamay and Aligote are used to make wines of a bit simpler style. Particular attention should be paid to the hierarchy of wines. First there are the regional and village wines, a step higher - the Premier Cru wines and the outstanding Grand Cru - at the top. Due the complex and inconsistent weather that can notably impact wine quality especially in bad harvest years, a very important factor here is the so called millesime - the harvest year of the grapes the particular wine is produced of, because each of these years has its own unique taste. Purchasing Burgundy wines is not easy because there are many details that should be taken into consideration - the class of the vineyard, the assessment of the manufacturer, the age of the vines, the quality of the wine as well as the millesime and, of course, the potential of ageing. The sellers play a big role here - they must be truly passionate about wine and able to offer only the best quality producers with a good reputation. That is exactly the way "Noble Wine" works!
