About
Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine 2022 is a beautifully dry white wine, crafted exclusively from the Melon de Bourgogne grape, cultivated in the Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine appellation in the Loire Valley, France. This wine is renowned for its sharp focus on terroir expression and sustainable viticulture, reflecting the domain's commitment to showcasing the unique mineral qualities and freshness inherent to the region's wines. The 2022 vintage stands out for its purity and precision, achieved through meticulous winemaking practices, including aging on lees to enhance complexity and texture, making it a quintessential representation of Muscadet's vibrant and crisp character.
Producer
On the very border of Brittany, in the village of Maisdon-sur-Sèvre, there is the Domaine de la Pépière winery. Mark, who grew up in the village of La Pepierre, created the winery in 1984. The name La Pépierre comes from the French word "pépie" (thirst). Walking over the village, on the slopes where the grapes grow, it is easy to understand the origin of the name. Over the years of development, the winery "Domaine de la Pépière" acquired new sites, closely monitored the quality and age of the vines, as well as the originality of their terroirs.
Tasting notes

Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine 2022 reveals a delicate yet dynamic profile, with notes of green apple, lemon zest, and a distinctive saline minerality that is a hallmark of the appellation. The palate is greeted with a lively acidity and a lean, focused structure, offering a refreshing finish that emphasizes the wine’s elegance and the Melon de Bourgogne’s bright fruit flavors. This Muscadet is a testament to the finesse and depth that can be achieved with this often-underappreciated varietal, presenting a wine that is both accessible and nuanced.

Pairing

Pairing the Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet with fresh oysters or other shellfish can highlight the wine’s crisp acidity and mineral undertones, creating a classic combination that enhances the natural flavors of the seafood. It also pairs exceptionally well with light vegetable dishes or goat cheese, where the wine’s bright profile and clean finish complement the freshness of the ingredients. These food pairings not only showcase the wine’s versatility but also its ability to serve as a delightful accompaniment to a variety of culinary experiences, making it a favorite for both casual and sophisticated settings.

Melon de Bourgogne variety tipically has high acidity, but often struggles to develop good concentration of aromas. The best wines have green apple and lime flavors, covered with mineral notes and light salty hints.
Muscadet-Sevre-et-Maine
This region is located on the Left bank almost next to the ocean. The local winemakers are very meticulous and careful, therefore are known for very qualitative wines. They are produced form Melon de Bourgogne grapes that are cultivated near and on the banks of the River Sevres and the River Maine. The fresh, creamy wines with green apple and iodine notes in the aroma are recommended to be consumed after a few years of ageing. A perfect partner for oysters.
Loire is one of the biggest regions in Northern France. This beautiful valley that stretches more than 300 km in length has been the inspiration of poetry and art throughout the ages. The dominant grapes are different in each part of Loire, and this is the only region in France that produces equally good white, red, rose, dessert and sparkling wines.
