Mâconnais can be proud of its white Chardonnay wines - they are excellent representatives of "white" Burgundy with a good price/quality ratio. These are definitely the best wines to start with when getting to know Burgundy for they are pure and charming in their simplicity.

Burgundy (Bourgogne) can be confusing because of the multiplicity of its appellations - all the small vineyards are divided between multiple producers so it can often be difficult to understand this diversity.
