About
Markus Molitor Riesling "Haus Klosterberg" Feinherb 2021 is a meticulously crafted off-dry white wine, produced from Riesling grapes sourced from the esteemed vineyards surrounding the Mosel River in Germany. This wine is a testament to Markus Molitor's commitment to expressing the unique terroir of the Mosel region, showcasing a Riesling that balances natural sweetness with vibrant acidity, achieved through precise viticulture and winemaking techniques. The "Feinherb" designation indicates a wine that is delicately sweet, offering a harmonious alternative to the traditional dry or sweet styles, and making it a versatile and approachable example of Mosel Riesling.
Producer
"80% slope - 94% Riesling - 100% passion." In 1984, at the age of 20, Markus Molitor took over the management of the winery from his father with a clear goal: to produce the Riesling of the Moselle region under the name Molitor in the tradition of eight generations, the quality of which made the region famous all over the world 100 years ago. “Learning from the past” - this uncompromising pursuit of quality, manual labor, screening and harvesting of grapes, precision in processes, unique experience and knowledge of nature, grapes and wine production allow each terroir and vintage to be fully revealed in the taste of wine. Markus Molitor wines perfectly demonstrate the potential of the Moselle terroir - combining structure and depth of taste with freshness and elegance. The winery is located in the center of the Wehlener Klosterberg estate and uses grapes from 15 vineyards in different locations. Each of the vineyards is unique, which makes it possible to call them "Molitor terroirs".
Tasting notes

“Haus Klosterberg” Feinherb 2021 presents a lively bouquet of green apple, citrus, and a hint of peach, complemented by subtle floral notes and a mineral freshness that is characteristic of Mosel Rieslings. The palate is elegantly balanced, with a gentle sweetness and crisp acidity that intertwine to reveal flavors of ripe stone fruits, lemon zest, and a slate-driven minerality, leading to a clean, nuanced finish. This wine’s complexity and refreshing profile make it a standout representation of the varietal’s versatility.

Pairing

Pairing the Markus Molitor Riesling “Haus Klosterberg” Feinherb with Asian cuisine, such as Thai or Vietnamese dishes, can accentuate the wine’s delicate sweetness and acidity, beautifully balancing the spiciness and aromatic herbs of the food. It also pairs wonderfully with light salads or seafood, where the wine’s fruitiness and minerality enhance the freshness and flavors of the dishes. These food pairings not only highlight the wine’s adaptability but also its capacity to elevate a wide array of culinary experiences, making it a delightful choice for diverse dining occasions.

90/100
The Moselle River, as a winding ridge of the region of the same name, Moselle, which often changes its direction, flows northeast from the Rhine and meanders over an area of almost 250 km. The Moselle, together with two small tributaries - the Saar and the Ruver - forms one wine region, which is considered the oldest in Germany. It is the fifth largest region in Germany. Today, half of the vineyards are located on steep slopes and terraces with a slope of more than 30 degrees, and some even 70. On these steep slopes, almost all grapes have to be harvested by hand. Therefore, each vine must be individually tied to a wooden peg. The valley's location makes this region one of the warmest in Germany. The steep slate slopes above the rivers accumulate solar heat during the day and radiate it again at night. The roots of the vine penetrate deep into the earth in search of water and minerals. That is why the winemakers here create unique wines with a fruity character and great depth of taste and relatively low alcohol content - ideal for a refreshing enjoyment. The region is also renowned for its noble sweet wines, with record-breaking prices at auctions every year, as well as the many excellent dry and semi-dry wines that win national and international competitions.
